Under 12 Winter Programme, Race 4, Mont Rossignol, 2 March 2003 |
With the previous event having been postponed, due to poor weather, the riders were keen to race again at Mont Rossignol for the 4th race in the Caesarean Cycling Club U12s Mountain Bike series, sponsored by Vittel Water. They were rewarded with fine weather and good conditions. The course, which was altered from the last race meeting, consisted of a very fast downhill start and finishing with a long and tiring uphill climb. In the 10 and 11 year olds race, a relaxed looking Adam Le Cheminant won comfortably. Robert Coutanche kept the pressure on in the early stages of the race but was unable to stay with Le Cheminant, who remains unbeaten this season. Coutanche maintained his 2nd position.

The 8 and 9 year olds class saw Steven Haley extend his championship lead, with an excellent race to finish a lap ahead of his closest rival, Samuel Allix. Allix worked hard to regain this position after losing it to Samuel Countanche on lap 2. A close race subsequently ensued between Coutanche and Kurt Dingle, with Dingle coming out the strongest to take the 3rd position. In the middle of the field, Robert Connan, Rory Hidrio and Samuel Luce were changing positions on each lap. Hidrio was ahead of the trio in the early stages, but it was Samuel Luce with his best performance to date, who won the battle to take 5th position ahead of Connan and Hidrio. There was a very exciting race in the 6 and 7 year olds class. This saw Joshua ODonoghue-Rowe, current championship leader, ahead at the start. However Toby Luce was always close behind and on the 2nd lap he fought hard to take the lead. ODonoghue-Rowe took a fall on this lap, but remounted and kept his 2nd position. Luce extended his lead to finish the comfortable winner. Matthew Boxall was in 6th position in the early stages of the race, but he worked hard to achieve his best result of the season, to take a well deserved 3rd place. Adam Trotter had an impressive race and made his way through the field from 7th position early on, to finish in 4th. The 5 years and under race, was run independently for the first time this season, and this saw the winner, Jacob Allix, taking the lead from the start. Ian Harris was never far behind Allix and finished in 2nd place. The next event will be at Mont Rossignol, on Sunday 9th March 2003, signing in at 2pm, for a 2.30pm start. 5 AND UNDER CLASS |
