The fourth race of the Mark Pickford Mountain Bike Winter Series took place in damp yet mild conditions at Sorel Point, St John. After a fast start over open fields and farm tracks elite riders Kieron Mills and Rob Smart (Guernsey) had opened a sizeable gap from the chasing bunch. By lap 2 Kieron had been overtaken by Rob, who powered away lap after lap to take a strong second victory of the series. Behind Kieron worked hard to consolidate his lead over chasing riders Sam Firby and Robin Ovenden. With an hours' racing completed Robin was forced to retire with a punchture, leaving Sam to take third spot. The Sports Class saw yet another new winner in the shape newcomer Adam Wojtkiewicz. Adam put in a superb ride in this is only second race, managing to hold off an equally strong ride by Gary Osbourne. Third spot was taken by the Mark Wanless. There was no change in the Veteran's class with Bruce Dingle taking yet another solid victory. Jim Leatt chased hard all the way but couldn't quite close the gap over the last few laps. Michael Boarer showed improving form to take third. The Women's Class was won by the consistent riding of Caroline Davis with Janet Gallichan taking second. Jim Davis show grit and determination to overcome a puncture to take third. The Schoolboy's Class saw current schoolboy champion Robert Coutanche take another win, managing to hold off the challenges of Stephen Le Brun. Younger brother Samuel Coutanche took third and looked to be enjoying himself in this his first senior race. The fifth race of the Winter Series will start at 9am on Sunday 5 th February at Vale del la Mare, St. Ouen. Please see the club website ( www.ccc.je) for further information. ELITE
