The seventh and final race of the Mark Pickford Mountain Bike Winter Series took place in cold, dry conditions at Mont Rossignol, St. Ouen. The varied course is a series of sharp climbs, fast descents and bridge crossings. A fast start saw a mix of riders start strongly over open ground before a sharp left into single track. Kieron Mills, Robin Ovenden, Michael Boarer and Pete Dingle all had great starts and lead the field for the first half a lap. With Mills and Ovenden battling it out for the overall championship, there was everything to race for. The two stayed neck and neck, swapping the lead lap-for-lap. On lap 5, Mills responded to a crash by Ovenden and opened a gap that he maintained to the final whistle. With just 1 point in it, Mills secured the Elite Class championship. Veteran Michael Boarer, who is due to race in the ‘2006 TransAlp Challenge’, had the race of his life riding clear of all the remaining elite and sports class riders. The Sports Class saw yet another great ride by Adam Wojtkiewicz to take a fine win, with overall Sports Class champion Mark Wanless in second and Chris Stone in third. The Veteran’s Class was dominated by Michael Boarer who was again untouchable the entire race. Pete Dingle had another great race and just managed to hold off a late challenge by Colin Malzard for second and third respectively. The Women’s Class was won in style by Caroline Davis with Janet Gallichan in second. The Schoolboy’s Class was won by the ever improving Robert Coutanche and Rikki Knowlton. Final championship points and full results are available on the club website (www.ccc.je). The Summer Series is expected to start at the end of May. ELITE
