Val de la Mare was the setting for the second race of the season and it attracted a large field of some 63 riders. The courses were tailor made for each class with a mix of technical sections and course lengths to suit each age group.
In the top group, 12 – 14 year olds, Ben Le Brocq was eager to get away and dominated the boys class over the longer course. Oliver Lowthorpe was on good form for a deserved 2nd place and George Brown moved up through the field to take 3rd. In the girls class Jade Ward was riding a steady race and took a deserved victory. Charlotte Turner even having suffered a fall pushed on to take 2nd place.
In the 10 & 11 year age group the class size continues to grow with 17 riders lining up on the displaced start line. A long run up a concrete hill started separating the riders before they entered the course proper. Harry Garnham was away quickly and led the first lap. Sam Maher kept up a good work rate to move into first and take the win with Harry maintaining 2nd spot with Michael Milner always looking good for 3rd. Also having good rides were Jacques Stead and Felix Ashcroft. In the girls class Amber Smith had a lightening start and maintained the pace to take 1st with Emma McGinley having a steady race in 2nd.Tori Perchard took the 3rd place.
The 8 & 9 year olds were the largest field of the day and were challenged by a slightly longer course than normal. Luc Monpetit-Le Brun was sharpest of the boys and led from the front for the win but Jack Lutz and Ben Le Rougetel were never far behind keeping him honest and finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. In the girls class Adele Maher was on a charge and took the honours with her best race to date. Indi Malzard was a good 2nd though not able to mount a serious charge with Evie Le Breton in 3rd.
In the 6 & 7’s age group racing was a competitive as the older classes. Whilst Oliver kept up the work rate for a great victory, Samuel Smith was fighting off Thomas Boarer for the whole race and they took 2nd and 3rd respectively. The 2 Aimee’s were battling for honours in the girls class but it was the in form Aimee Lutz who was victorious.
George Daniels made it good day for the Daniels family with a solid ride for victory with Billy Malzard a good 2nd and the ever improving Sonny Bertram in 3rd with Dad and Uncle Mick providing great encouragement! In the girls class it was great to see Maja Jeromkin back and she was obviously excited taking the class win Katie Le Rougetel and Robyn Kemp putting in gritty performances for 2nd and 3rd places.
