The Club's annual freewheel competition on the new
north road in St. John on a dry and sunny, breezy Sunday morning
turned in to a close battle between Dick(downhill)Turpin, Noel(the
heavyweight)Hayden and Mike(hurryalong)Harris. DT
held the lead from early on and watched anxiously as first Andy(slowcoach)Smith
grimaced his way to an eventual 5th place, and then, John(dangerous)
Du Feu sneaked ever closer for a surprise 4th, before big Noel got
to within a bike length of DT and was nearly over his disappointment
of losing his title and being second, when MH nipped past the both
of them right at the end to claim his umpteenth trophy of the season Only
the first 4 got round the bend in this race--the easiest event of
the year!
