Caesarean Cycling Club’s Adam Wojtkiewicz produced a polished performance to win the first 25 mile time trial of the 2008 road racing season, with clubmates Kevin Pilley and Helen Goulding making it a clean sweep for CCC, winning in the veteran’s and ladies classes.
In damp conditions a field of 30 riders gathered at St Ouen for the first 7.30am start of the season. Despite the gloomy skies and wet roads, there were a number of notable rides over the 25 mile course, stretching from St Ouen’s Manor to St Martin’s Church and back. Wojtkiewicz’s win was achieved by clocking a time just over the hour mark, at 1:01:01, with fellow CCC senior James Amy 34 seconds back to take second. Paul Gage, also of CCC, finished his first competitive ride for many years in a fine time of just over 63 minutes.
Caesarean Kevin Pilley placed third overall in 1:02:02, taking top veteran spot from his two-up time trial partner, Dave Mayman, who finished second, with VSJ’s Andy Munns claiming the third spot in the veteran’s placings. VSJ veterans Mike Mitchinson and Mark Nish also had good rides in times of 1:03:30 and 1:03:34 respectively.
In the ladies category, Helen Goulding continued to display good early season time trailing form with a time of 1:09:31 to take top spot from VSJ’s Jemima (Jim) Davis, who finished just under a minute back in 1:10:23.
The rain held off for the majority of the race with skies beginning to clear as riders finished. The event, organised by CCC President Allan Miller, was excellently marshalled throughout the course. [KP] |
