A chilly morning with a fresh North-Westerly breeze saw a large field turn out for the third stage of the Easter Stage Race organised by the Caesarean Cycling Club.
The wind meant that it was a tough first leg travelling North on the five mile road before ascending Mont Pinel to the turn on Hydrangea Avenue. After a fast descent it was then a lovely tailwind to push the competitors to the finish line back at La Pulente.
First to finish was Commonwealth Games hopeful and CCC rider Robin Ovenden with a time of 20:50, closely followed by CCC’s overseas member Danny Lowthorpe on his yearly pilgrimage to the Island. VSJ’s Vince Peron rounded out the podium with a time of 21:43.
First veteran was CCC rider Mike Harris recording a time of 21:56, with CCC Kevin Pilley claiming second spot and VSJ’s Bill Buist third.
First lady and a junior to boot was CCC’s Carey Fenton with a great time of 27:38, followed by Nicky Bardin also of the CCC and VSJ’s Gemma Derrick.
Thanks to Dave Mayman, Peter Hubert, Peter du Val, Torty Hubert for organising and Simon Fenton and Steve Lowthorpe for marshalling.
