Here's information from VSJ regarding their 2009 Road and Track Racing League:

The Velo Sport Road and Track Racing league is designed to offer riders a method of identifying where they are in any given season performance wise. It is also a benchmark for rider ability and a tool to judge your progress either within a given season or from year to year.

The League is based on 4 divisions - click here to see the current League Divisions.

So how does it work?

Riders start off as newcomers in a division of their choice or by committee/race organiser recommendation i.e. if it is your first race, you can discuss your fitness and experience with a race organiser and together, make a decision as to which division you wish to ride in.

If you are an experienced rider, your division will be decided on merit by a review panel (The Velo Sport Racing Committee) or by way of your previous season’s results (league position at the end of the season) in conjunction with the Racing Committee’s review which takes into account rider feedback, committee opinion and results analysis.

Regardless of which club you ride for, your results form part of the League.

So which Races Count & How do I Win it?

Any Velo Sport organised road or track race counts towards the league and the league runs season long.

The top 10 riders in each race will score points as follows: 10 points for the winner down to 1 point for the rider in 10th place. 11th place and below are non-scoring positions. At the end of the season i.e. after the last road or track race, the league positions are final and the rider with the most points in each Division wins their Division.

What Happens if I Win?

There will be a trophy for the winner of each Division presented either after the end of last race of the league season or at your club’s respective annual dinner.

How does Promotion & Relegation Work in the League?

Promotion and relegation within each Division is not necessarily based on highest or lowest scoring positions - Although, the league position you finish in will form part of the decision making process when the Racing Committee review the Divisions at the end of each season. This means that if you win your Division or finish well, there is a higher chance of you being promoted but there will be other factors considered such as the manner in which you win and how your general performance has been across the board all season, not just in the league.

If riders wish to be promoted or relegated, they MUST do so formally by emailing the committee at velosport@live.co.uk or in writing to make the request.

We will then respond within 10 days to confirm if the committee are happy to accept the transfer.

If a rider’s transfer is approved, he or she CANNOT carry across any points already accumulated.

Riders can also ’suggest another rider is promoted or relegated’ by using the same process i.e. if a majority feel it is unfair that a certain rider is ’ripping apart’ their division and their presence in it is unfair, they can request a change and it will be considered and answered within 10 days
