Junior Chris Seviour of the Caesarean Cycling Club won the Caesarean Cycling Club's handicap road race held on the Bal Tab circuit this Sunday.
Conditions for the 9 lap, 45 mile race were ideal on the start line with the first group of riders given a 7 minute head start on the middle group which was mainly composed of the faster veterans, with a further 3.5 minutes back to the scratch group of senior riders. The groups quickly settled into working together to stay away from the chasing riders, with the gaps closing down as the laps ticked by.
The clouds were gathering on the horizon with the rumble of thunder getting ever nearer and just after the halfway mark the heavens opened. The scratch riders caught the middle group with three laps to go and with the injection of pace this gave the chasers, the leading group on the road were caught on the penultimate lap.
At the start of the final lap young Seviour and seasoned rider Chris Spence (CCC) had managed to open up a gap on the peloton, which by committing themselves to the limit they maintained to the end of the race with Seviour taking the honours on the line.
Noel Hayden (CCC) won the bunch sprint to claim third overall and first veteran with Louise Meyer (CCC) finishing first lady. [DM]
