JCA Island Games and Commonwealth Games Selection Guidelines |
|
|
The following are the principles which will be used to guide selectors in ensuring that the strongest possible team departs for the Games. Therefore the selectors' role extends beyond the selection meeting to the monitoring of selected riders' performance and fitness in the period between selection and the Games. The selectors may decide on minimum standards for selection which may vary in relation to the standard of competition expected and from Games to Games. The JCA will announce that it will be selecting a team during the racing season prior to the Games. This announcement will be made through the websites of the JCA members in a statement written by the JCA which must be published unaltered and on an agreed day. The announcement should contain an explanation of the standard that riders will have to achieve to be considered for selection and the timeframe in which they will have to achieve it. Achieving the standard will not mean automatic selection. RidersSelection will take place for all road events at the end of the season prior to the Games unless the Games are held after July. Selection for mountain bike events will take place at the end of the Winter Series. All riders will be expected to show commitment by racing off the Island before and after selection. Performances off the Island will always be judged by the quality of the events and the number of riders taking part. Age related events will not be considered. Riders may be dropped from the team due to loss of form, illness or lack of commitment. All riders will have the right of appeal. Mountain bike riders will be expected to race in road events as a means of improving race fitness and tactical awareness. A reserve rider may be selected but not travel with the team. All riders will be given financial support but may have to pay a percentage of the total cost of travel and accommodation. The percentage will be decided for each Games and communicated to riders as early as possible. Riders will have to pay for their Jersey racing kit and the administration costs of the JCA. After the Games riders may retain their Jersey racing kit. On being selected all riders will be required to agree in writing to the above. Team ManagerThe Island/Commonwealth Games Team Manager/Managers will be appointed prior to the team selection. The Manager/Managers will have: a very good knowledge of bike racing, good communication skills, a proven organisation ability, made a contribution to local cycling beyond just racing; and will be: expected to liaise with the General Team Manager, attend Island/Commonwealth Games meetings as the JCA's representative, responsible for arranging the shipping of bikes and equipment, attend managers' meetings and cycling technical meetings while at the Games, responsible for the day to day well being of the riders while at the games, provide the riders with as much information as possible about the courses and conditions, arrange and provide support to riders during races. Within 28 days of the closing ceremony the Team Manager/Managers will present to the JCA a full report in writing. The report should include a full set of results for the cycling events, an account of any relevant issues that arose and the outcomes, praise for those who have performed well and recommendations for the future. No Team Manager will be appointed for more than three consecutive Games. After the Selection MeetingThe individuals selected will be informed of the selectors decision in writing. The Team Manager will organise a meeting with the team at the earliest opportunity to ensure all riders fully understand what is expected of them. This was received by The CCC on 21 January 2008.
