Helen Goulding travelled to the UK to take part in the British Time Trial Championships in Cheshire. The course (J8/18) was a mixture of narrow country lanes and single carriageway busy A roads and included some sharp turns made all the more interesting by the rain which had threatened all day and which finally arrived in time for the women's event. Helen completed the 1.8 lap, 18 mile course in 46:37 to finish 15th. Wendy Houvenhagel beat her by a mere 6 minutes to take the women's title in a time of 40:40. The men's event, which included an extra lap, was won by David Millar in 56:57 riding for Saunier Duval.

Also in the women's event was Guernsey's Ann Bowditch riding for Science in Sport.com who finsihed 12th in a time of 45:55.

Guernsey Velo Club's James McLaughlin finished the Juniors' event in an excellent 6th place, posting a time of 41:01. This is all the more remarkable given he had his own bike stolen the day before the event and rode the course on a borrowed bike.

Thanks to Guernsey's Mike Brehaut for the use of his picture of David Millar in the rain.

The event was well organised and marshalled by the Stretford Whs CC
