On 17th October, the last of 8 of the Rudi Project UK National Time Trial series---which 'El Presidente' has been riding throughout this year---was held on a course based on Devises in Wiltshire. Allan made a real 'flying' visit to the race leaving Jersey on the overnight ferry to Portsmouth on the Friday night at 9pm, riding the race at 3pm on the Saturday afternoon, and then returning to the island at 6am (ouch) on the fast ferry back from Weymouth on the Sunday morning. He was back in time to make his usual visit to the cafe at Portinfer no one else was there---but the peace and quiet was lovely!!
His eventual finishing position in this last race was 4th on Target Time in the vets section, and 9th on vets Actual Time, meaning that in the final overall tables for the season long competition he finished 3rd behind the redoubtable John Woodburn and (the much younger) David Johnson in the Target Results, and much to his surprise 8th overall in the Actual Time section for the vets. His final position(s) was mainly due to his ride the previous weekend in the 7th leg of the series (which ended up being a tie breaker), and which was held on a course to the east of Carmarthen in Wales in the most appalling of weather and ridden on a road bike with borrowed (what else) mini-tri bars from Mike Harris---thanks Mike they worked a treat. As an aside AM had taken the opportunity to see the Devises course & HQ the weekend before on the way to Wales so that there was an easy no panic journey on the 17th to the race from Portsmouth.
Anyone wishing to view the mathematics involved can visit the CTT website at cyclingtimetrials.org.uk, look at the report on the Home Page titled ;- RTTC---Rudi Project The final round (there's even a photie of you know who right at the bottom), then go to Site Map, scroll down to TT series, and view the final results for all categories. Next year the RP competition will revert back to something closer to the original format with District TT's as well as the 8 National events included---and hopefully more Club members will feel able and willing to take part.
Also, in his wider travels Allan took the gold medal for his age group in the CTT National 25ml. Time Trial Championships on a course near Norwich earlier in the year, and achieved 3rd place in his age group in the combined National BTTC TT Championships in September, when Robin Ovenden competed well in the senior event alongside the likes of Bradley Wiggins. Definitely knackered after his season long efforts, Allan would like to thank the CCC for its continuing financial support for riders travelling to mainland events and hopes that more members will feel encouraged to enter and ride races in the UK---and feels that if he can do it---anyone can. Apart from the last two RP races, a second event has always been entered---either before or after the main RP races which are held either on a Saturday or a Sunday, so that maximum benefit has been obtained from the Club cash expended.
